Matt Foy displaying old form with Stockton Thunder

Considering he has played more hockey in the past three months than he had in the past three seasons combined, it seems fair to say that Stockton Thunder winger Matt Foy has come a long way in a very short time.
Before Foy signed with the Thunder heading into training camp in late September, multiple injuries had limited him to only 11 games over the previous three seasons, including none at all last season. After 25 games with the Thunder, however, Foy is tied with Kevin Baker for the team lead in scoring with 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) and is showing flashes of the skill that made him a sixth-round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2002 and earned him 56 career appearances in the NHL.
“I feel good,” said Foy, who played in 28 games with the Wild during the 2007-’08 season and has 237 games worth of experience at the American Hockey League level. “It’s nice to feel good and just enjoy playing again.”
Foy, 28, has a right to feel good after going through some tough times the past few years. After his season with the Wild in 2007-’08, he was signed as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues and was assigned to the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL to start the 2008-’09 season. He managed to play in only four games that season, and then signed with the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League before the start of the 2009-’10 season. He was injured on opening night with Arizona, and came back late in the season only to be hurt again. In all, he played in only seven games with the Sundogs and then sat out all of last season before joining the Thunder.
