Chris Treadway: Beloved Richmond coach memorialized; El Cerrito Chamber has a ...
The time and devotion that Dolly Felix gave as a coach and teacher at John F. Kennedy High School will be recognized on Saturday, when the Richmond campus will officially memorialize her by renaming its gymnasium.
Eagle supporters are encouraged to wear red and white and come to the gymnasium at JFK, 4300 Cutting Blvd., at 1 p.m. Saturday for the proceedings.
Following a friends and family social time is a 1:30 p.m. ceremony in honor of Felix, whose career in Richmond schools lasted more than 50 years and encompassed almost the entire history of JFK until her death on June 25 at age 79 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
"We hope to see all of you at the dedication in honor of Dolly," wrote Nicholas Zoffel of the Eagle Foundation in announcing the ceremony. "We would love to pack the gym."
Felix, herself a Richmond Union High School graduate, began her career at Harry Ells High in 1956 and was part of the first faculty at Kennedy when it opened in 1967.
