Area roundup: QHS girls head into holiday break with a win
STAFFThe Quincy High School girls basketball team doesn't play in a holiday tournament, so the Blue Devils begin today a two-and-a-half week stretch of no games.
They'll be able to enjoy that off stretch a little more after they won their final game of 2011 on Saturday, winning 60-57 at Chatham Glenwood.
"This was a big win for us heading into break," QHS coach Greg Altmix said. "It was a victory where everyone pitched in."
QHS held a 58-57 lead with 20 seconds remaining when Hannah Reller missed a free throw, grabbed the rebound and scored a putback basket.
Glenwood had a chance to tie, but Cara Moody's 3-point attempt missed. Moody had made three 3-pointers earlier in the fourth quarter.
Arai'ya Dade led the Blue Devils (7-5) with 13 points, and Reller had 12. Taylor Eisenberg joined them in double figures with 10 points.
QHS will return to action Jan. 3 at West Hancock.
Unity 47, Macomb 35: The Lady Mustangs used pressure defense to rebound from a Friday loss to earn a win at home.
