Stockton gran's Norma Chisholm's future in UK in doubt

STOCKTON gran Norma Chisholm, who discovered she had been living in the UK illegally since childhood, is fearing for her future after struggling to get the paperwork she needs as well as facing losing her job.
Mrs Chisholm only discovered her illegal status this year when she applied for her first passport, aged 56, in the hope of going on holiday with her family.
Before then, Norma had lived and worked in the country unchallenged - being issued a national insurance number and a medical card, gaining a driving licence, getting married and working and paying taxes all her adult life.
She had come to the country from South Africa as a 10-year-old - unaware her father had not completed the correct paperwork for her.
In September, a Home Office spokeswoman told the Gazette that there would be no danger of Norma being deported so long as she applied for the documents and stamp she needs.
But she could not clarify where Norma stands if she was unable to get them - saying her case would have to be looked at “on an individual basis”.
