WE asked kind-hearted Sun readers to back our campaign Care For The Elderly This Christmas – and you have responded in your thousands.Tales of communities rallying round to make sure lonely pensioners have some company over the festive period have been flooding in.
Celebrities have also thrown their weight behind our push — carried out in conjunction with charity Friends Of The Elderly — to get people to look out for an older neighbour this Christmas. The Only Way Is Essex star Lauren Goodger was so moved by our campaign she got involved herself, popping in for a natter and a mince pie with Margie, 75.
Margie, from north-east London, will be spending Christmas Day in her flat on her own and Lauren was delighted to be able to spread a bit of festive cheer.
Lauren, 25, said: "The thought of hundreds of thousands of elderly people around the country like Margie spending Christmas on their own is just heartbreaking.
"I've just moved into a new flat and I'm having all of my family over for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
