A Winona County woman came home Monday morning to find a strange man in her house looking for a job.
At least that’s what he said he was looking for, according to Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand.
The sheriff’s department and a judge disagreed. Maurice Golston, 56, of Rochester, Minn., appeared Tuesday in Winona County District Court on a charge of second-degree burglary.
About 10 a.m. Monday, the woman pulled into the driveway of her home on Almon Drive near Stockton to find a gray Buick parked in the yard, Brand said. As she got out of her vehicle Golston came out of the house, and when she asked what he was doing he told her he was looking for a job and asked if there was any work there he might do, Brand said. The woman told Golston there wasn’t — then went inside and notified the sheriff.
The woman also called her husband, who was at a neighboring farm, Brand said, and he pulled into the driveway just as Golston was leaving and blocked his way. After searching Golston’s car with his permission, the husband allowed him to leave.
