A heartfelt reminder on a cold day in Denver
Has your day-after-Christmas hangover subsided? Have you gotten around to cleaning up the mess left from opening the gifts?
Fortunately, with the holiday falling on a Sunday, many are taking the day off, and that presents an additional day to relax or go to the stores to catch an after-Christmas sale or return that unwanted or ill-fitting gift.
As I tend to say nearly every year, holidays are about spending time with people you care about.
Last Monday, I was in Denver to attend a funeral for a friend named Stuart Gates whom I had known from my days at The Denver Post newspaper. We were colleagues who became friends. I got to know his mother, learned much about golf playing rounds with him, and discussed and debated various topics. We remained friends long after I moved from Colorado to California.
He was at my wedding. Well, actually he was at my reception; he missed the wedding, although I think it was because his plane was late. And I saw him or his mother a few times while they were in the Bay Area visiting family.
