Aggies renew rivalry with Big West Tigers
The last time the Aggies and Tigers tangled was more than six years ago. They will renew the rivalry tonight at the Spanos Center. Tipoff is set for 8 o'clock.
"It was a great rivalry and you do remember some of the games," Aggie head coach Stew Morrill said.
Several came to the veteran coaches' mind right away Friday after his team practiced, then bused to Salt Lake City International Airport and flew to Sacramento, Calif.
"You remember being up eight points with 52 seconds here (in the Spectrum and losing 64-63)," Morrill said. "You remember when they were 17th in the country and we beat them in the Big West Tournament championship game (65-52). You remember the losses and wins."
Both of those memories are from the 2006 season, the last time they met. Following the rare home loss, Morrill promised his team it would win the conference tournament, which it did, snapping a 22-game winning streak by Pacific. The Aggie win in the tournament championship also ended a 34-game winning streak by the Tigers against Big West foes.
