2011's Top 10
19.05.12
At the end of each year, The Record news staff evaluates the region's most newsworthy events from the preceding 12 months. The resulting list of the year's Top 25 stories is offered to readers, who pick their Top 10 through online voting. This is Part 1 in a weeklong series looking back at 2011.
Looking back, some faces remain indelibly etched: a young woman out for some fun and relaxation with friends never returns home, a little boy longing for his reward for being good while running errands with his mommy is run down, a polarizing city manager becomes the overarching focus as Stockton wrestles with the possibility of bankruptcy.
Other 2011 stories in San Joaquin County may have lacked similar sensationalist qualities, but in some ways they were even more personal:
» Crime remains a big problem in Stockton, and it touches too many residents during the year.
» Housing values continue to fall and more people lose their homes. The metropolitan area is the nation's No. 1 in foreclosures - again.
