Welcome addition
It was mid October and Peter Boyd felt lucky to be driving across the United States.
Just a few days earlier Boyd had been in ECHL training camp with the Greenville (S.C.) Road Warriors preparing for his first full season of pro hockey.
Instead, he was waived and on his way back home to New Brunswick when he learned he'd been claimed by the Condors. That's when he became a true road warrior.
"I was in Virginia when I got the call and told my parents I was going to make the hike to California," he said. "They thought I was pretty nuts to make the drive. It was about a four-day drive."
Counting the initial drive down from New Brunswick to Greenville, Boyd said he crossed "something like 32 states from the time I was home to here. I got to see the countryside, for sure."
Boyd, 23, started his pro career late last season when he played 11 games in the American Hockey League after finishing up four years at Ohio State.
